自考英语词汇"the"的妙用

在英语中，一个定冠词“the”的有无就可以把句子的意思完全改变。我们看下面的几组词语:
1．in hospital：因病住院
   in the hospital：在医院里（工作、探望病人等，不一定是病人） 

2．go to school：去上学（学生）
   go to the school：到学校去（不一定是学生）

3．go to bed：去睡觉（困了或者到睡觉的时间了）
   go to the bed：向床边走去/走到床前（不一定是睡觉）

4．at table：吃饭
   at the table：在桌子旁边

5．in front of：在（……外部的）前面
   in the front of：在（……内部的）前面 
例：He is in front of me. 他在我前面。 
    The driver is in the front of the bus. 司机在公共汽车的前部。

6．in class：在上课
   in the class：在班级里
例：Don't talk in class. 上课时不要讲话。
    There are forty students in the class. 班上有40个学生。

7．by sea：乘船
   by the sea：在海边

8．on earth：究竟
   on the earth：在地球上

9．in charge of：掌管，负责（表示主动）
   in the charge of：在……负责之下（表示被动）
例：Our English teacher is in charge of our class.
    Our class is in the charge of our English teacher.

10. take place：发生，举行
    take the place：代替，接替
例：The wedding of John and Sara will take pace on 22 May. 约翰和萨拉的婚礼将于5月22日举行。
    My brother is ill, and I've come to take his place. 我兄弟病了，我来接替他。

11.behind time：迟了
   behind the times：落在时代后面，不合时
例：This plane is behind time. 这趟航班晚点了。
    That old man's ideas are all behind the times. 那个老人的观点很陈旧。

12. by day：在白天
    by the day：按日计

13. by hand：手工做的
    by the hand：搀着（手）

14. give battle：开战
    give the battle：打败仗

15. go to sea：去当水手
    go to the sea：出海

16. go to war：交战
    go to the war：参军

17. in case of：如果，万一
    in the case of：就……来说，至于

18. in course of：正在……中
    in the course of：在……的过程中
例：The new textbook is in course of preparation. 新教科书正在准备之中。
    He has seen many changes in the course of his long life.
    他在漫长的一生中目睹了许许多多的变化。

19.in future：从今以后
   in the future：在将来
例：Please be more careful in future. 今后小心。
   No one can foresee what will happen in the future. 没人能预见将来会发生什么事。

20. in person：亲自
    in the person：代表

21. in place of：代替
    in the place of：在……的地方

22. in possession of：占有，拥有（表示主动）
    in the possession of：被……占有（表示被动）
例：Who is in possession of this estate? 这是谁的地产？
    Those buildings are now in the possession of our university. 现在那些楼房是属于我们大学的。

23. in red：身穿红衣服
    in the red：亏损，有赤字

24.in secret：暗地里，秘密地
   in the secret：知道内情，参与秘密
例：Are you in the secret? 你知道内情吗？
    He told me the news in secret. 他悄悄地告诉我这个消息。

25. in sight of：看得见，在看得见……的地方
    in the sight of：在……看来，从……观点来看

26. in view of：鉴于，由于
    in the view of：按……的意见

27. keep house：管理家务
    keep the house：守在家里

28. on fire：着火
    on the fire：在考虑中，在准备中

29. out of question：不成问题，无疑的
    out of the question：不可能

30. take air：传播，泄漏
    take the air：出外，呼吸新鲜空气，兜风
