自考英语词汇afford,give, offer, provide, supply区别

Afford: “提供”，“供给”；可以带双宾语，一般只能用于抽象事物，还可以特指经济能力，指“供给”，或能“付出”一定的时间，在这种意义上，只能接在can或be able to之后。
eg.History affords us lessons that merit attention.
   I think he can afford this color TV.

Give:供给（最普通用语）。
eg.He gave me an English dictionary.

Offer: 英文解释是To present for acceptance or rejection，中文解释是：献，提供：呈给，以使对方接受或被对方拒绝. 主观上愿意“供给”的意思。
eg.He offered me a job, but I didn't accept.

Provide: “供给”，“提供”； 强调有预见，并通过储存或准备的方式为某事做准备，以在需要时提供所需物品。牵涉到金钱时，provide往往含有“免费供给”的意味，supply一般需付钱。
eg.The school provides the students with text-books.
   We provided them (with) board and lodging.

Supply: “供给”，“供应”(供给缺乏或不足的东西)，不可带双宾语。
eg.The water-works supply the town with excellent water.
   We are well supplied with foods.
